    The Indicator Light: Reinforcing Presence

    The Indicator Light: Reinforcing Presence

Last December I wrote a post titled "Death as an Ally" about the preciousness of each fleeting moment. In the past year, I've come to appreciate this sentiment even more.

As you move into the month of December with its accompanying demands on your time--the cards, parties, family visits, joys and conflicts--maybe take a moment each day (oftener if you're willing) to stop and notice this moment, this...ki... moment, a moment that will not come again. Find ways to reinforce presence....

    this mystery called existence

    this mystery called existence

Last month I wrote about my intention to be more patient. I would ask for "just a little more" patience with life, with obstacles, with other people, and in general.

Today I'm being patient with myself. My energy is low, I don't feel like myself, and it's hard not to wish for a different state of being. So I'm just noticing, wondering and writing. As Rumi says in my favorite Rumi poem...

    Freedoms We Take For Granted

    Freedoms We Take For Granted

Every fourth of July week, I try to remember some of the freedoms I overlook in my day-to-day existence in this amazing country. I first started writing about them in a post a few years ago, called Inner Freedom, and I included them in my CD of songs and stories, Simple Gifts: Making the Most of LIfe's Ki Moments.

I hope they give you pause, and that you take that pause to reflect on this Ki Moment.

New Beginnings: Do You Know the Story You're In?

New Beginnings: Do You Know the Story You're In?

Walking through Market Square the Sunday before Christmas, I happened into an afternoon service for New Frontiers Church, a relatively new spiritual community in my home city of Portsmouth, NH. I was curious because they rent space in my church--North Church--and so I wandered in. The speaker was telling the Christmas story from Mary’s point of view and asking: "Do you know the story you're in?" Mary understood that she was part of a bigger story, he said, and he asked us if we understood that we are, too.
